|Bill Chase, Worship Pastor|
Dr. Bill Chase has been involved in music ministry for all of his adult life. His first ministry experience came at the age of 18 when he began his first music ministry at a church in Alvaton, Kentucky. He has spent most of his career in his home state of Kentucky, serving as a Minister of Music/Worship. For most of his early years, Bill served in combination ministries which also included youth. Prior to coming to Zion Baptist Church in 2010, he served in Lumberton, North Carolina, for nine years. During those years, he also helped found and provide direction to the church’s Christian school, where he served as administrator, board member, and teacher.
Bill’s education spans several decades: He holds a Bachelor of Music Education (K-12, choral & instrumental) from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Ministry and Doctor of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He has studied graduate level music at WKU and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and he has studied theology, Christian education, and nouthetic counseling at SBTS and Trinity Theological Seminary.
While an undergraduate student at WKU, Bill met Brenda Wilcher, a native of Bowling Green, and they were married a few months later. Bill and Brenda have two children, Kerry and Kirstie. Kerry, his wife, Miciah, and their sons Desmond and Benjamin, live in Louisville, where Kerry attends The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Kerry's wife, Miciah, is a full-time mom. Kirstie, her husband, Brent, and their daughter Olivia, live in the Cookeville, Tennessee area. Brent is a middle school math teacher, and Kirstie is a professional photographer and stay-at-home mom.
When not busy with his ministerial duties, Bill writes, arranges, and orchestrates music. Some of his music has been published, but his main interest is in using his music in worship. Bill has had many other artistic interests over the years: piano tuning/servicing/rebuilding, pipe organ design, studio directing/producing, and oil painting using the sgraffito technique. Other interests of his include golf, miniature golf, squirrel hunting, music festival judging, and pageant training/judging.
Bill’s focus verse for ministry is Psalm 33:3: “Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.” (ESV) His greatest joy is in helping Christians discover their musical and artistic talents, and then finding opportunities for them to use those talents to serve the Lord.
